Starting in clinical trials Val moved to manage the biospecimen bank at Melanoma Institute Australia in 2010. In 2019 Val now oversees the collaborative research projects of MIA, their governance, reporting frameworks and funding (government and community grants).

Val’s background is nursing and computer science. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (in languages and Information Technology) from Sydney University, and a Master of Commerce degree (in Information Technology) from the University of NSW. Her passion for research commenced many years prior whilst working on applied artificial intelligence projects at Westpac.

Val joined ABNA in 2010 and the committee in 2018.
